My Teaching Technique:
I believe learning the piano is like going on a journey. You could walk, run, skate, drive - there are lots of different ways to arrive at your destination. I believe everyone is unique and therefore has their own unique way of learning - we're not all the same, so I don't use the same method with everyone. The lesson will be designed to suit your needs.
I believe learning doesn't have to be an impossible journey! In fact, I believe people are able to learn so much, while still enjoying themselves. So with some students, I may use games, the whiteboard, teddy bears, a puppet, a stress ball, and other ideas to make lessons so enjoyable, that sometimes we have so much fun, the student doesn't realise that they are learning at the same time!
I believe there is always more to learn. I myself am continuing with education in many areas of my life so that I can better assist my students in the learning process.
I believe in helping the student to think for themselves. I don't want people to go home and think "only Amanda can help me with this problem". We talk about many techniques to help the student improve in their own problem-solving skills.
I believe a student should ALWAYS be able to play something when the opportunity arises, whether they have their music book with them or not!! I don't want students to be caught unprepared when it's time to play, so we examine different ways for a student to be able to share their music with others.
I believe parents can have a very active role in the learning experience of their children if they wish. This may mean sitting in the lesson with their child and helping at home, or even having lessons themselves. I also believe in the independence of a child, and this is assessed as lessons progress, as to whether the student is ready to have lessons and practice unaided. This can be done over an extended period of time, and is always done in consultation with student and parent.
I believe in students being an active participant in the learning process. If at any time the student is not progressing well, or unhappy with lessons, they are free to discuss this with me so that a more suitable program can be established.
The next step...
So now it's time to take the next step, and see what can happen! The possibilities are boundless!!!
My promise to you is that I will do my best to help you achieve your dream!
