Do I need a piano?

Of course it would be ideal to have access to a piano, but sometimes this is not yet possible! While progress can be slower, there are steps that can be taken towards owning your own piano. Many students start off with a keyboard. Feel free to talk to me about a plan that suits your budget.

  How long will it take?

You'll be playing a song from lesson number one. The longer you stay and the more time you put into it between lessons, the more you'll improve!

 Why should adults learn?

  • it's your own decision to start
  • you are aware of the financial responsibility
  • you have heaps of listening experience with a wide range of music
  • you are already familiar with terms such as ascending, descending, moderately... words used commonly in music
  • it builds self-esteem and confidence
  • you show interest and enthusiasm because it is YOUR choice to learn

What students say:

  • I do it for relaxation
  • I love music
  • It's good to have an interest outside work
  • this is something I'm doing for myself, for my own enjoyment
  • It's great to be able to play at parties and friends' houses
  • I'm learning with my child as a bonding experience and common interest

 Why should children learn?

  • You have the support of your parents
  • It helps you to discover the routine of a lesson each week and regular practice
  • You become familiar with learning lots of new things in a teacher/student relationship
  • You can play for your friends and family!
  • It helps build self-esteem and self-worth

What students say:

  • It's good fun, you can learn things with a nice teacher!
  • Learning the piano gives you the basics, making it easier to learn other instruments
  • It's easy to learn!
  • I feel happy, I don't feel sad, I'm glad I learn piano

What if I have a disability?

I have a Certificate 3 in disability studies and an Integration Aide certificate which dealt with many disabilities. I have a passion for those disadvantaged and I love a challenge! Whether it's an amputated finger or a child with ADHD, I'm willing. Let's give it a go!

What about accompanying and performing?

I have had years of experience of accompanying and performing in church and school settings. If you want to improve in this area, we can look at specific issues and techniques to help you.

 Why have concerts?

At the end of the year, students will play in front of other people and listen to other students play. It may only be one other person - but learning to play in front of others is a very important part of learning the piano.

You may feel nervous about playing at a concert, but students have learnt to appreciate the benefits and even enjoy these times together.

 What does it cost?

First Lesson - $15 cash only

Payment by term - $26 per half hour

Payment by lesson - $28 for half hour, cash only

Prices are less if there is more than one in the family

Most students have a weekly 30 minute lesson. Terms are based on the school timetable, with an average of 10 weeks per term.
